What did NLA's DV Project do for BDSM/KINK/Leather communities?
The NLA-I DVP was continually striving to make the project a vital part of the BDSM/Kink/Leather communities. Some of the activities NLA-I DVP participated in included:

  • NLA-I DVP offered workshops for individuals in the BDSM/Kink/Leather communities.
  • NLA-I DVP provided safety plans for victims to get out of abusive intimate partner relationships.
  • NLA-I DVP provided pamphlets for individuals, groups, and events. These pamphlets helped individuals distinguish the differences between a healthy relationship and an abusive relationship.
  • NLA-I DVP distributed postcards for individuals, groups, and events. These postcards supplied individuals with information on how to get help, distinguishing the difference between abuse and a healthy relationship, and where to go if they need additional information or help.
  • NLA-I DVP published a quarterly newsletter with information on resources, NLA-I DVP updates, and other related domestic violence information. The newsletters were free and subscriptions were open to anyone who wanted to receive the NLA-I DVP’s newsletter.
  • NLA-I DVP maintained a resource directory for individuals to browse and find agencies and services that were empathetic and willing to work with individuals in the BDSM/Kink/Leather communities. If a resource was not available for a particular area a NLA-I DVP Regional Coordinator or the NLA-I DVP chair would work with individuals to find the resources or help they need.
  • NLA-I DVP provided training, NLA-I DVP pamphlets, or other NLA-I DVP related materials to domestic violence agencies and services at the state, national, and international levels when it was necessary to improve or educate services and agencies about the BDSM/Kink/Leather communities.
  • NLA-I DVP actively investigated and worked with domestic violence agencies and services to discern their level of acceptance and willingness to work with individuals in the BDSM/Kink/Leather communities.

Request a Workshop
In the past, you could contact us to have a coordinator or chair present for your event!

The NLA-International DVP Regional Coordinators were very active and present workshops for various organizations throughout the year. The NLA-International DVP was more than happy to work with your organization to setup an NLA-International DVP workshop on healthy BDSM relationships versus intimate partner abuse.
Download our Pamphlets

The NLA-International Domestic Violence Project wanted to ensure individuals and organizations have up to date contact and intimate partner abuse information. To that end, we offered a pamphlet with a brief history of our project and the National Leather Association – International’s Statement on Domestic Violence plus 12 informative pamphlets on what abuse looks like. Please visit our Pamphlet page to view the pamphlets, download or order multiples for your upcoming event.

DVP informational postcards

We once sent brochures and postcards to events and individuals free of charge. They merely needed to reach out.

DVP vest pins

We had two pins during our existence with this project, each you will see below. The "Know the Difference" campaign was successful, and in 2020 we revamped the old pin, creating a new look.

All proceeds from any sales of pins were directed to the Living in Leather LLC, and ear tagged for DV Project. The remaining funds were donated to the LA&M, with the intent to preserve the projects achievements and continue to educate on the subject matter of Abuse versus BDSM.
